Clark pledges decisive action on energy prices
Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary Greg Clark has stated that the government will take “muscular and strong” action against “damaging” energy price rises. Clark, appearing before the business, energy and industrial strategy select committee on Wednesday 19 April, said that the timing of the planned “decisive” move would now require “reflection” in light of the calling of the general election. Clark said that although he did not have the power to affect prices directly, the government could act to alter a “deficiency” in the market, saying the market is “clearly not working” for those on default tariffs. Clark told the committee that customers who could not shop around online, or who were not "fleet of foot", were being "milked" by energy companies.
