Lib Dems focus on energy efficiency
The Liberal Democrats published their general election manifesto on Wednesday 17 May, placing emphasis on energy efficiency, community energy and backing new entrants to address the current challenges of the market. The party said it would reduce energy bills permanently through these measures, and set out plans to pass a new Green Buildings Act to set new energy-efficiency targets, and ensure that 4mn homes are made highly energy efficient. The party specifically pledged to restore the zero-carbon standard for new homes and would set a target for at least three in 10 (30%) customers in the household market to be supplied by competitors to the Big Six by 2022. In contrast to Labour and the Conservatives, the party did not pledge to impose a price cap on the domestic market.
