Second CfD auction to be unaffected by snap general election
BEIS has confirmed that the second contracts for difference (CfD) auction will be unaffected by the snap general election called by Prime Minister Theresa May for 8 June. Following May’s announcement on Tuesday 18 April, ReNews reported the department as explaining: “As CfD statutory notices are now law and the auction has already begun, there will be no change to the scheduled CfD2 timings.” The application window, opened on 3 April, will run until 21 April, with applicants notified of the outcome of the application window on 15 May. If May wins the necessary support in the Commons to trigger the election then government will soon enter purdah, which prevents departments from making new policy announcements or introducing new initiatives. Parliament is expected to be dissolved on 3 May.
